SC directs minister Sapkota to assist investigation

KATHMANDU, June 21: Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Minister of Information and Communications Agni Sapkota to assist Kavre police to clear the accusation filed against him.

A joint bench of justices Ram Kumar Prasad Shah and Prakash Wasti, however, didn’t issue any stay orders against the minister.
The SC also directed Kavre police to take serious consideration in investigation of the incident.
A group of civil society leaders and human rights activists filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) at the SC demanding the apex court’s order for the removal of Sapkota over the human rights violation.
They had accused Sapkota of masterminding the abduction and subsequent killing of Arjun Lama, a resident from Kavre some six years ago.
Purnimaya, wife of deceased Lama, had lodged a complaint at the District Police Office, Kavre. But the police refused to register the case.
