KATHMANDU, June 20: Supreme Court on Monday ordered the release of Govinda Bahadur Batala an accused in the abduction and subsequent murder of Kathmandu based businessman Ramhari Shrestha in 2008.
Acting on the Habeas Corpus filed by Batala’s wife, a division bench of justices Sushil Acharya and Tahir Ali Ansari issued the order to this effect
Ex-Maoist combatant Batala spent three years in Chitwan jail during his trial as an accomplice in the murder and was eventually released by Chitwan District Court as he had already served time equal to his jail term.
Police re-arrested him on May 25 and charged him with abduction.
